Digital interlocking Meitingen-Mertingen

The Meitingen-Mertingen digital interlocking is the first of its kind on a Deutsche Bahn high-speed line for regional and long-distance rail transport, with line speeds of up to 200 km/h. The Nuremberg - Augsburg - Munich section is part of the TEN Scandinavian-Mediterranean Core Network Corridor and is part of a central development project for Digitale Schiene Deutschland (DSD).

The double-track line 5300 is equipped with state-of-the-art signaling system (DLST). Construction work began in February 2019 and the digital interlocking replaced two previous relay interlockings from 1958 and 1960 when it went into operation (IBN: Inbetriebnahme).

Implementation:

Track field concentrators (GFK: Gleisfeldkonzentrator) were built in the Meitingen and Mertingen stations, along with a data centre for the technology and operating site (TSO/BSO) in Donauwörth, to accommodate the new signalling technology. Additionally, the technology centre has been completely redeveloped in accordance with industrial standards and offers maximum availability and protection for the signalling technology. High-performance and highly available solutions were implemented for the data and power supply of the signals and switches to maximise the reliability.

One of the most important development and realisation goals was the implementation of a protection concept against cyber attacks, supported by a Security Operation Centre (SOC) in Frankfurt, which monitors and analyses all communication on the Meitingen-Mertingen line 24/7.

DB InfraGO AG is thus implementing the requirements of critical infrastructure legislation, making it a pioneer in Europe in this area, too.

When the digital interlocking in Meitingen-Mertingen was commissioned, existing signalling systems and old signal boxes from DB InfraGO AG were replaced with technology from GTS (Ground Transportation Systems) - formerly Thales. This offers:

- greater safety

- increased reliability

- increased efficiency

- improved comfort

- cost savings on sight.

As part of the pre-series projects (VSP), the new digital interlocking - (DSTW) - with modular interchangeable components was tested and prepared for the subsequent series projects.

Benefit:

- Qualified testing of all processes, subsystems and also of the overall system of digital signaling technology (DLST

- A secure basis for the realisation of series projects
